Wedding season is underway

Things have been so busy round here lately that we’ve hardly had a chance to do any blogging. The reason being is wedding season’s underway. I know it’s no excuse, but when you’re putting up tents left, right and, well you get the picture, all you want to do is get your feet up with a nice glass of wine and chill out. I can’t complain really, it’s Christina that’s got the poor end of the deal. She’s the one that knows how to work the washing machine, so she ends up washing all of the bedding!

Weddings are always unforgettable experiences, and as much as the good old English weather is trying hard to put the dampners (literally) on the summer, we’re taking bookings for more and more weddings, group glamping weekends and kid’s parties on the back of the happy campers we’ve already provided for this year. The feedback that we’ve been getting is brilliant (some you can see here) and not even the rain, that on occassions has been torrential, is stopping our clients from having the times of their lives.

So we here at Glampit just want to say a massive thank you to everybody that has trusted us to be part of what is usually one of the happiest (if not a little stressful) days of their lives. We’ve had a ball do far and can’t wait to supply the rest of this summers clients with memories that they’ll never forget. I’ll leave you with a few of our pics from this year so far.

May Bank Holiday

Wow, what a weekend. We had the idea that we’d be able to get away for a bit of glamping ourselves this weekend, but that didn’t happen.

We, along with many more people from Yorkshire and the surrounding areas, went to the Yorkshire Dales Festival of Food at Leyburn on Saturday. There was a fantastic selection of stalls, exhibitors and displays on offer. One of which was Pizza a la cart; a Land Rover Defender fitted out with a wood fired oven. What a great idea for a party or an event.

I tried plenty of samples, including ciders, pickles, cheeses and a cheeky little chilli jam from the Chilli Jam Man, which for a brief second I’m sure made me go a bit deaf!

It was also good to meet up with Chris (and William) Wildman of Paganum and Yorkshire Chorizo fame to discuss some glamping ideas we have, and purchase some of his sublime chorizo. If you’ve not tried his chorizo before, be sure to give it go, it’s beautiful.

On our drive back from Leyburn we took the route that takes in Carlton and Kettlewell, which offers some of the best scenery the Yorkshire Dales has to offer. On our way through Carlton we spotted a little country pub, called The Foresters Arms, which we decided to drop in to for a drink. Now this place isn’t just any country pub, it’s a community pub. I was lucky enough to get chatting with Peter Pearson, one of the committee members and one of the people who set out a year ago to rescue this beautiful Inn. This was a place that shut early in 2011 after having been an Inn since the 17th century. To find out more about what Peter and the rest of the committee are doing please go to the Coverdale Community Pub website. But most of all, show your support by actually visiting the pub.

The Foresters Arms, Carlton

Also in the Foresters Arms, we were introduced to Gary Verity (Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire) and Liz Tattersley (Head of Membership). We chatted about future work with them and bounced ideas around for other marketing and PR for Glampit.

So all in all, we might not have managed to get away for any glamping ourselves this weekend, but wow, it’s been an eventful one.

Yorkshire – When are you coming?

Following our Welcome to Yorkshire post earlier in the year, we thought we’d share with you the new “Yorkshire – When are you coming?” video. The guys have once again put together a stunning video that showcases the diversity and beauty of our wonderful county. I for one can’t wait to get glamping in some of the gorgeous scenery that’s shown off here.

Make sure you turn the volume and enjoy.

Danby done

Well what a great weekend we’ve had. We travelled up to the North York Moors on Saturday and spent the day eating fish & chips in Whitby, drinking guiness in Robin Hood’s Bay (it was St. Patricks day after all!) and in the evening eating beautiful fresh seafood at the picturesque Duke of Wellington in Danby itself.

But the reason we’d gone up to the North York Moors was to show off one of our wonderful bell tents at the Danby Castle Wedding Fayre.

The weather on Sunday was good thankfully (in comparison to Saturday) so the moors setting of this unique venue looked great. We pitched up and furnished the bell tent with all the glamping trimmings in preparation for the arrival of all the future brides and grooms, in-laws, friends et al. The turn out was great and we had lots of interest in our tents for wedding accommodation at the castle. People were enquiring for this summer, next summer and one couple even enquired for 2014!

Lot’s of fantastic wedding suppliers were on display inside the marquee. However we were outside, pitched up next to Steve and Ruth from allcool camper hire. They were the supplier of Rose, the beautiful 1965 VW split screen Camper Van. Isn’t she beautiful?

Whilst we were there we received confirmation of a booking by Jennifer for her wedding at the castle this July. So there’s a day we’re looking forward to immensely. Hopefully there’ll be many more to come.

Carolyn & Duncan of Danby Castle, thanks again for allowing us to be there. We’ll see you all very soon.

Danby Castle Wedding Fayre (our first fayre)

Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors sits Danby Castle. A ‘most unique venue’ that was winner of the Bridal Magazine award for best venue in 2010, which they’ve also been nominated for again this year.

On Sunday 18th March, they are holding their Wedding Fayre, which will be filled with lots of local wedding suppliers, including… Yes, you guessed it, Glampit.

Glampit at Danby

We we’re incredibly happy to receive an invite from Carolyn at Danby Castle to pitch one of our furnished bell tents at the fayre. So if any of you are thinking of coming along on Sunday, please pop along to the tent to say ‘hi’ to Christina and I.

For more information on the fayre, please go to the Danby Castle website.

We look forward to seeing some of you there.

Bank holiday camping 2012

This year we’re lucky to have an additional bank holiday due to the Queen’s diamond jubilee, which falls on the 5th of June. Now I’m not the sort of person that needs an excuse for a camping trip, but this little summer treat should be too good to pass up. For regular campers like myself, bank holidays are perfect for an extended weekend away, but trust me when I say…you need to seriously start looking now to be sure of getting a booking. Bank holidays are notoriously busy times for campsites and many even require a minimum stay.

Bank holiday dates for the diary can be found at here.

Once you’ve got that weekend in the diary, take a look at our recommended Yorkshire campsites. There are lots more campsites to choose from out there though and a good place to look is ukcampsite.co.uk.

Now you know I’m bias when it comes to Yorkshire for camping, so do a bit of research on where abouts you want to go. Whether it be the Yorkshire Coast for the white sand, family-friendly seaside resorts and of course the famous fish & chips. Or the Yorkshire Dales, for it’s outstanding scenery, breathtakingly peaceful atmosphere and a perfect pint. There’s also the 1400 miles of natural beauty that is the North York Moors to consider. Home to heather moorland, pine forests and rolling hills. Even the surrounding areas of Harrogate, York, Leeds and Bradford have fantastic places to go camping, so consider wisely, pick a site and get booked.

So what are you waiting for, let’s get started. Let’s get glamping.

Welcome to Yorkshire

We’ve just signed up as a fully fledged member of Welcome to Yorkshire. We’re incredibly happy to be associated with this fantastic tourist board who have just retained their title as THE best marketeer in the World Travel Awards, which as the guardian puts it are “the nearest thing to the Oscars in the industry”.

Here’s one of their brilliant video’s, the Y promotional film. Why Yorkshire…Y not?
