What a season 2016

Christmas has long been over and 2017 is now well underway. Unfortunately, it’s still single digit degrees outside so not much call for Glamping. But I’ve well and truly embraced the Danish art of Hygge over the Autumn and Winter, so as I’m typing this, recalling the 2016 season, I’m sat here in front of our (roaring) wood burning stove with a lovely cup of coffee as Basil is curled up on the sofa with his furry blanket wrapped around him for extra coziness. Lovely.
2016 was, in one word, incredible! To expand, it was easily our busiest season yet. Newly married couples and their friends and family enjoyed our tents across the country. From Northumberland to Norfolk, we pitched a record number of tents. The teams worked some serious hours. I remember the day two teams had to dismantle a job in Newark, only for one of the vans to then travel on to Norwich to pitch up for a wedding the very same day. What a weekend that was. I remember sleeping for quite a while after that one!
We enjoyed new festivals this year too, with the likes of the Embrace Secret festival and Festival 23. We added new products too to our packages, including; Eve memory foam mattresses, a marquee and Emperor tents.
So as the 2017 season creeps up on us, the weather will improve and the bookings will continue to come in. Personally, I can’t wait. As much as I love relaxing in front of the fire, I’m always much more at home in the great outdoors, doing what I love.
Bring it on!

A country garden style wedding – Rachael & John

Here we take another look back at one of our weddings. This time Rachael & John were looking to stay nearby for the wedding night but couldn’t really find anything close enough, so a friend suggested hiring a glamping tent, and that’s exactly what they did! They and a few friends hired our glamping tents and some others stayed over in camper vans. Rachael said “This was the perfect ending to a perfect day. Our tent had a four post bed, throws, cushions, lanterns, bunting and twinkle lights.”

Glad you enjoyed it. Photos by Mark Crayden

Sally & Josh’s Camp style wedding

Another look back over some of the professional images of the weddings we were lucky enough to work on and set up our Bell Tent glamping villages for in 2013. This wedding was on the Isle of Anglesey at a family home, which had stunning views down to the sea.

Liz & Jamie’s DIY festival wedding 2013

We’ve been preparing this week for the first wedding of the season this Saturday, which we are really looking forward to. This got us looking back over some of the amazing images of the weddings we were lucky enough to work on and set up our Bell Tent glamping villages for in 2013.
I thought it’d be rude not to share, so here’s the first of what we’ll be sharing…

An opulent glamping proposal

Once again the summer is incredibly busy and we’ve pitched hundreds of tents at some amazing locations throughout the Yorkshire region. We’ve even just returned from a weekend pitching a bell tent village down in Rutland.
However the big news of the summer came a little closer to home. On June 1st the Glampit team got engaged.
With the help of some amazing friends and contacts in the wedding industry, I pulled off what the Yorkshire Post called an “indecently opulent proposal“.

It all started by identifying a weekend that was free of bookings, which in itself was difficult with the amount that we’ve had this year. I contacted wedding planner Charlotte Miller, from Eden & Eve and asked if she could help me organise a little something at very short notice (2 weeks).

With Charlotte’s support we enlisted a number of great suppliers to help. All of which were invited to see my private board on Pinterest, so they knew what type of theme I was going for. Sarah and her wonderful team at Leafy Couture created stunning florals and provided some amazing props to compliment our Moroccan themed bell tents. Additional props were also supplied by Sam from the unique Lime Lace in Harrogate. Incredible food was provided by Tony from Eat Me, Drink Me and the amazing images were captured by the incredibly talented Holly from Belle & Beau Photography.

It all took place at High Austby Farm which overlooks Ilkley and Addingham and when it came to popping the question, the guys had put everything in the tent and made it look incredible. Christina and I got ourselves sat down and Holly was about to get some pictures. Charlotte stepped out and the photographer started snapping. I just turned round to Chris and said: ‘I’ve got you here under false pretences, explained I loved her and said: ‘Christina Louise Brough, will you marry me?’

Friends and family had been put on standby and started turning up throughout the afternoon, bringing food to cook on fire pits. So ultimately we got an engagement and engagement party in one.

Matt and the guys at Lights 4 Fun provided us with beautiful festoon lighting to string across the trees which set the whole thing off once the sun started dip behind the hills.

The always superb Rock My Wedding also wrote a piece on the whole thing, which was an honour to be featured in.

Once again a massive thank you to all involved…especially Christina for saying “Yes”.

And they say romance is dead.

Duncombe Park Luxury Wedding Fair

This Sunday (the 28th) we’ll be attending ‘The Wedding Affair at Duncombe Park‘, luxury wedding fair. Set in several hundred acres, Duncombe Park is situated near the picturesque market town of Helmsley.

The Wedding Affair Duncombe Park

We’ll be pitching a bell tent on their hallowed turf and exhibiting inside the Stately home, alongside over 45 exhibitors. I’ve also been told that there is a glass of wine on arrival and gift bags (while stocks last), so if you get the opportunity to come along, we’ll see you there.

Wedding season is underway

Things have been so busy round here lately that we’ve hardly had a chance to do any blogging. The reason being is wedding season’s underway. I know it’s no excuse, but when you’re putting up tents left, right and, well you get the picture, all you want to do is get your feet up with a nice glass of wine and chill out. I can’t complain really, it’s Christina that’s got the poor end of the deal. She’s the one that knows how to work the washing machine, so she ends up washing all of the bedding!

Weddings are always unforgettable experiences, and as much as the good old English weather is trying hard to put the dampners (literally) on the summer, we’re taking bookings for more and more weddings, group glamping weekends and kid’s parties on the back of the happy campers we’ve already provided for this year. The feedback that we’ve been getting is brilliant (some you can see here) and not even the rain, that on occassions has been torrential, is stopping our clients from having the times of their lives.

So we here at Glampit just want to say a massive thank you to everybody that has trusted us to be part of what is usually one of the happiest (if not a little stressful) days of their lives. We’ve had a ball do far and can’t wait to supply the rest of this summers clients with memories that they’ll never forget. I’ll leave you with a few of our pics from this year so far.

Danby done

Well what a great weekend we’ve had. We travelled up to the North York Moors on Saturday and spent the day eating fish & chips in Whitby, drinking guiness in Robin Hood’s Bay (it was St. Patricks day after all!) and in the evening eating beautiful fresh seafood at the picturesque Duke of Wellington in Danby itself.

But the reason we’d gone up to the North York Moors was to show off one of our wonderful bell tents at the Danby Castle Wedding Fayre.

The weather on Sunday was good thankfully (in comparison to Saturday) so the moors setting of this unique venue looked great. We pitched up and furnished the bell tent with all the glamping trimmings in preparation for the arrival of all the future brides and grooms, in-laws, friends et al. The turn out was great and we had lots of interest in our tents for wedding accommodation at the castle. People were enquiring for this summer, next summer and one couple even enquired for 2014!

Lot’s of fantastic wedding suppliers were on display inside the marquee. However we were outside, pitched up next to Steve and Ruth from allcool camper hire. They were the supplier of Rose, the beautiful 1965 VW split screen Camper Van. Isn’t she beautiful?

Whilst we were there we received confirmation of a booking by Jennifer for her wedding at the castle this July. So there’s a day we’re looking forward to immensely. Hopefully there’ll be many more to come.

Carolyn & Duncan of Danby Castle, thanks again for allowing us to be there. We’ll see you all very soon.

Danby Castle Wedding Fayre (our first fayre)

Nestled on the edge of the North York Moors sits Danby Castle. A ‘most unique venue’ that was winner of the Bridal Magazine award for best venue in 2010, which they’ve also been nominated for again this year.

On Sunday 18th March, they are holding their Wedding Fayre, which will be filled with lots of local wedding suppliers, including… Yes, you guessed it, Glampit.

Glampit at Danby

We we’re incredibly happy to receive an invite from Carolyn at Danby Castle to pitch one of our furnished bell tents at the fayre. So if any of you are thinking of coming along on Sunday, please pop along to the tent to say ‘hi’ to Christina and I.

For more information on the fayre, please go to the Danby Castle website.

We look forward to seeing some of you there.
